Through my experience as a first-generation scholar, I have felt first-hand the stress, uncertainty, and self-doubt that can accompany higher education. This has guided me to my passion for mentoring others to ensure they do not face the same challenges alone. As a mentor, I prioritize actively listening to my mentees to understand their life perspectives and concerns. I offer empathetic support and thoughtful advice that tailors to their individual needs, empowering them to confidently navigate their academic lives.
My goal is to be a reliable source of guidance and encouragement throughout their academic journey. My time as a mentor has led me to believe effective leadership involves cultivating a supportive community, identifying collective needs, and setting motivational goals to overcome them. I firmly believe that effective leadership goes beyond directive instruction; it involves building a strong sense of community where everyone feels heard and valued. Clear communication leading to sharing collective needs and collaboration to set inspiring, achievable goals, is essential in overcoming shared challenges. By cultivating an approachable environment of mutual support, I strive to encourage others to reach their fullest potential.
Service to the community
As the co-director of RUBilingual, I am proud to lead an outreach community dedicated to enhancing literacy development in multiple languages.
Our mission is to inform and educate by providing parents and educators with targeted strategies and resources to support literacy development in multilingual environments. We also strive to promote bilingualism across the United States, fostering a greater understanding and appreciation of linguistic diversity.
Part of my service to the community revolves around bridging research and education. To do so, I participate in creating workshops for Teacher Professional Development, where I discuss the importance of bilingual education, the latest research findings in language learning, and best practices.
